Grinder Pumps

Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water-Clear-Up offers both emergency and standard grinder pump repair and replacement. A grinder pump is a wastewater pumping device often coupled with sewage and septic pump applications. Wastewater (typically from fixtures, toilets, kitchen sinks, bathtubs, washing machines, etc.) flows through the sewer pipe into the grinder pumps holding tank. Once the wastewater inside the tank reaches a specific level, the pump will turn on and grind the waste into a fine slurry, then pumps it to the central sewer system or septic tank. Furthermore, these pumps have the option of being installed in the yard and differs from a sump pump or effluent pump.

There are two types of grinder pumps, semi-positive displacement and centrifugal. Moreover, grinder pumps are a type of submersible sewage (septic) pump that has cutting teeth incorporated onto the impeller to grind the sewage for pressure sewer applications. Therefore, the discharge piping may be smaller in size. For example, high head conditions are a specific use for this design of pump.

Features

Grinder pumps have grinding teeth on the inlet of the impeller, submersible motor.

Applications

A grinder pump is typically used in residential, commercial, and industrial pressure sewer systems, usually where high head conditions exist for sewage.

Recommended Media

Grinder pumps usually pump sewage and other wastewater products.

Advantages

Grinder pumps allow smaller diameter sewage piping than typical gravity drains. In addition, the sewer lines can follow the contour of the land since they do not have to continuously drain to the collection point.
